Make a date for psychic night at Madeley Court

Mercure Telford Madeley Court Hotel, famous for its ghosts

Here’s more Halloween chills and thrills from the Things That Go Bump In The Night Department. Mercure Telford Madeley Court Hotel will host two special Halloween Psychic Nights on October 30 and 31.  Located in Shropshire, it is well known as being one of the most haunted places in the UK.

The Mercure Telford Madeley Court is a 16th century Manor House steeped in history, with the main hall boasting features dating back to the 13th century, with adjacent rooms dating to the 14th and 15th centuries.

Madeley Court’s most infamous ghostly inhabitant is that of a forlorn looking monk who glides across the grounds, while one family reported a whole group of monastic figures sitting on the main hall’s crossbeams during lunch!

Madeley Court is recorded in the Domesday Book and it is known that a building has existed on the site since Saxon England: the estate was bought in the 8th century by St Milburga, and remained in the possession of the Wenlock Priory for five centuries before being surrendered to the Crown in 1540.

There have also been frequent reports from staff and guests of Victorian maids bustling around on the top floor. The Madeley Court mill, a heritage-listed building dating from the 16th century, has been the subject of reports of disembodied laughter and furniture being violently and mysteriously moved during the night. At one time there was also a small terrace of coalminers cottages in the grounds, which sometimes make a ghostly reappearance despite being destroyed years ago.

The hotel  also hosts regular overnight ghost hunts in conjunction with paranormal event specialists Eerie Evenings. Mercure’s restaurant serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner. A bar/lounge is open for drinks. Room service is available during limited hours. This 3.0-star property offers small meeting rooms, a meeting/conference room, and audio-visual equipment. Complimentary wireless internet access is available in public areas. There are 47 rooms.
