Victoria wine festivals

Victoria wine festivals: The Mornington Peninsula Vigneron’s Association will again play host to the Mornington Peninsula International Pinot Noir Celebration, February 8-9, 2013, a chance to explore and celebrate the magic of this cool climate variety. Festivities begin on Friday, February 8, with two full days of tutored tasting sessions tasting pinot noirs from around the world alongside wine media and producers from the US, France, New Zealand and Australia.

The event coincides with the Mornington Peninsula Wine Region’s recent marking of four decades since the first vines were planted there in 1972, celebrates the coming of age of new world pinot with a nod to traditional and unconventional styles. Guest producers will include Josh Jensen from Calera, Ted Lemon from Littorai (both from California), as well as Etienne Grivot from Domaine Grivot from Burgundy whose wines will be tasted alongside standouts from the US, New Zealand and Australia.

Guests will be given a tasting glass and can wander between wine stands, sampling the region’s best pinot noirs and talk to the winemakers. Mornington Peninsula produce will be prepared by local restaurant chefs. Tickets are $A990. Tickets to the Pinot Showcase (an optional extra on Sunday February 10) are $A120 http://www.mpva.com.au or phone (03) 5989 2377. Accommodation is available at RACV Cape Schanck Resort. www.mpva.com.au

Twenty wineries will host Tastes of Rutherglen – March 9-10 and March 16-17, 2013, celebrating 25 years of wineries in the region. Meet the winemakers behind Rutherglen’s world-class wines and discover the passion of North East Victoria’s local producer.¬†Each winery will offer a “culinary experience” (entree + wine match).

New to the experience this year is a clever twist as each entree will be centred around a unique herb or spice. Think saffron, star anise, tarragon, vanilla bean, mint, cumin and more, with each herb/spice infused entree  matched to a signature wine. Festival-goers can also attend a Sparkling Wine Masterclass at Cofield Wines or a hands-on session with a barista, a chocolatier and a winemaker at Scion Vineyard and Winery. www.winemakers.com.au Tickets can be purchased online.
